When it Rains it Pours

Hiya.
I need a raincoat for the fall and feel oddly drawn to yellow. Also, I like the rain. I wish every season was full of summer rains and the sunshine after.

Vilnius, Lithuania

Though many told us to visit Kaunas if we went to the beautiful country of Lithuania, we decided to stick to Vilnius and spend the (almost) last days of our 2 1/2 week tour exploring the city and it's secrets.

Vilnius was hot, beautiful, full of great little bars and pubs and interesting history. Our hosts from Australia and Germany gave us a grand tour of everything and now I miss the sun there.

To me, Vilnius was a great mix of grungy pubs, artsy corners and amazing people. It had so much potential and gorgeous scenery, combining a relaxed atmosphere with interesting history (don't miss the genocide museum, a sad place to visit but well worth it) without being overly touristy. A backpackers heaven with low prices and lots to see.

Riga, Latvia

Riga blew my mind! We arrived by bus, driving by various Soviet-era apartment buildings and ended up at the bus station (which looked a tad rough to say the least). After the initial shock though, you quickly see the beauty of the place.

We stayed with a couple who were both composers, writing pieces for the national theater and various kids musicals. Our time in Riga was amazing and again, we got to hear about the Latvian way of life, of their struggles and how they are now making their way through the depression.

The place surprised me with it's architecture and most of all, with all the amazing people we got to meet.

Tallinn, Estonia

So our tour of the Baltics and Scandinavia is over and I'm back in Helsinki, working at the office.

I loved the travels we had and the people we got to meet.

In Tallinn we stayed at a friends place, who kindly told us all about the history, the traditions and the culture of Estonia. Home cooked meals were served and pastries eaten. It was amazing.

Next stop was Riga, that'll make another post after this one.

We got a private tour of the city hall after hours, it was creepy but cool, lurking around the corridors at night!
